DETROIT (WXYZ) - An open flame was seen spewing from the gas meter on the side of what was left of a home on the city's west side Sunday night after an explosion that was felt from blocks away.
It happened on Plainview near Tireman just before 6pm.
Neighbors say they heard a loud boom and when they went outside they saw a house with the walls blown out and flames everywhere. A man in his 60's was under some of the debris. Witnesses say he was on fire, but was awake when paramedics arrived.
The cause is under investigation. DTE says its equipment was functioning properly.
The homeowner's condition is not known.
