DETROIT (WXYZ) - The 13-year-old boy who says he was snatched by two men and sexually assaulted returned to his mother's home overnight after being checked out at a local hospital.

This morning he was taken by detectives to a police precinct for more questioning. The alleged incident happened in broad daylight so police are trying to make sure all the information adds up.

Two sources with Detroit Police tell Action News it appears the boy may have left the school on his own after getting in some sort of trouble.

The teen, who is in the fifth grade at Wayne Elementary School in Detroit, says he was walking from the school office to his classroom when he heard someone banging on a school door.

He says as he opened it, two men grabbed him and brought him down the street to a backyard clubhouse where they sexually assaulted him.

It happened around 2:00 p.m.

The men eventually left, and the boy was found wandering with his pants off and duct tape on his hands.

The two police sources who spoke with Action News say detectives are investigating whether there was any sexual assault. It is possible that something violent happened even if he left school on his own.

The victim’s mom says her son has been questioned repeatedly and his story has not changed, except for one point. He originally said it was one white man and one black man who attacked him. He now says it was two black men, one of whom is light-skinned.

"They made my son get on his knees and do degrading things to one of them," said the boy's mother. "That's just so not human to me."

A spokesperson for the school district says it is taking the allegations seriously.

"This is a school with an absolutely stellar safety record," said district spokesperson Steve Wasko.

The Detroit Police Department  released the following statement:

"The preliminary investigation conducted by the Detroit Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit revealed that this does not appear to be a random act, and the victim may have known the two male suspects.  The Investigators handling this case have identified a person of interest and are actively searching for that person.

This matter and the allegations of a sexual assault  are still being investigated."
