DETROIT (WXYZ) - A former principal and police communications officer are among four people charged with embezzling a total of $150,000 worth of goods and services from Detroit Public Schools.
Among those charged are the former principal of the Randolph Career & Technical Center, Gwendolyn Miller. She allegedly used DPS money to pay for a heating unit for her home and allegedly stole merchandise from the school.
An accountant at that school, Eugenia Holimon, is accused of misusing a DPS Sam's club card for work on her home. She is also accused of lending the card to her friend, former Detroit Police Department employee Robert Gibson.
Detroit Public schools Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb says "a few weeks ago I thought we had a mini cesspool but we have a major cesspool of corruption involving some employees."
The defendants face from 4 to 20 years in prison and are being given the opportunity to turn themselves in.
