Free spay and neuter services for Detroit dog owner residents

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit Dog Rescue is offering Detroit dog owner residents the opportunity to spay and neuter their canines for free.

The services will be offered August 15 and August 22 at the Detroit K9 Pet Supplies on East Warren. The event begins with pet drop and finishes with a community cookout for all pet owners from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rabies and Distemper vaccinations will also be provided at no cost. Micro-chip identification implants, Heartworm and Bordatella vaccinations will be available at a reduced cost.

"Detroit has more than 50,000 homeless and stray dogs living on the streets, in vacant lots and homes. The only way to really control our pet population is to educate and encourage pet owners to be responsible by keep up-to-date with their dogs' vaccinations and health screening along with spaying and neutering,” said Dan Carlisle, co-founder of Detroit Dog Rescue.

The community cookout will also include kid activities and a DJ.

Detroit Dog Rescue is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to humanely rescue the more than 50,000 homeless dogs living in Detroit and establishment of the area’s first no-kill shelter for dogs without a home.
