DETROIT (WXYZ) - A thunderous roar could be heard in Downtown Detroit as thousands of skateboarders hit the streets for International Go Skateboarding Day.
Each year “Wild in the Streets,” sponsored by Emerica , takes over a city. In the past, it’s been in New York, Montreal, Vancouver, Madrid, Los Angeles and London, but for the first time it took over Detroit.
Thousands of skateboarders showed off their best tricks before heading off on a 5-mile ride from Hart Plaza down Woodward Ave.
Organizers hope the event will raise awareness about the positive impact skateboarding can have on the community, and the outlet it provides youth.
