DETROIT (WXYZ) - Several fires have sparked up overnight on Detroit's east side and they may be the work of a serial arsonist. At one point fire fighters say as many as 10 fires were burning at the same time. There were 16 fires between 1:20 and 5:30 in the morning alone.

The majority of the fires happened along Warren Avenue near Outer Drive in abandoned homes but one family was displaced when a fire in their garage ignited the home. They escaped without injury, but one fire fighter was not as lucky.

He was taken to Detroit Receiving after a brick from a burning building fell on the head. He was treated and released. His inquiries are said to be minor. That may not always be the case given the nature of fire.

Crews stopped short of saying the outbreak was the work of a serial arsonist, but admit the fire do look suspicious. An investigation is underway to make that determination, but it is certainly looking that way. Especially given the fact that a similar string of fires occurred in the same area last week.
