Local legendary gospel singer and pastor Bishop James. L Craig dies at the age of 61

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Bishop James Lenzy Craig, Sr., pastor of Craig Memorial Tabernacle in Detroit and one of Detroit’s famed Craig Brothers, died Sunday, July 29 at the age of 61. 

Bishop Craig and his late brother Bishop Charles Ashley Craig, III. founded Craig Memorial Tabernacle in Jan., 1984 in Detroit. Here they provided great music and a sermon for their church members. 

The Craig Brothers performed gospel music touring with their church choir and the Detroit chapter of Gospel Workshop of America. They also recorded several gospel albums. 

Their 2006 album The Craig Brothers Live In Detroit was nominated for a Stellar Award in 2007. Their musical success dubbed them “The Legendary Craig Brothers” across the nation. More information of their story and legacy can be found here .

Bishop Craig passed away last Sunday after singing at a popular church in Detroit. 

Church members say they will fondly remember Bishop Craig for his sayings including “All is well” and “I wish you love.”

A musical celebrating his legacy is planned for Friday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. at Craig Memorial Tabernacle, 14201 Puritan Rd., Detroit, Mich.  

A homegoing service is arranged at the same location for Saturday, Aug. 4 at 9 a.m.
