(WXYZ) - The Federal Transit Administration gave the green light today for the 3.3 mile Woodward Avenue streetcar project to proceed.
The FTA has completed the environmental clearance for the project.
Construction on the M-1 Rail Project is expected to begin south of Adams Street this year. Construction north of Adams street will begin in 2014.
The streetcar system is expected to start rolling in late 2015.
Also today, M-1 Rail President and CEO Matthew Cullen welcomed eight new members to the non-profit’s board of directors and introduced Jeni Norman as Chief Financial Officer. The board now has 14 members.
