MONROE, MICH (WXYZ) - Two people are dead and the Monroe County Sheriff's office is investigating a couple of serious accidents that occurred within minutes of each other.
A 27-year-old man was killed in a hit and run accident at 2:51 am Saturday on Heiss road about 3/4 of a mile west of Telegraph in Frenchtown Township.
Gregory Grubb, from Maybee, Michigan, was driving a GEO Prism Passenger eastbound on Heiss Road.
He had stopped the car and gotten out of it when he was struck by another car that investigators believe is a 1994-2001 Dodge pickup truck that now has damage to the front. Mr. Grubb was dead at the scene.
In another unrelated accident that occurred just 3 minutes earlier at Nadeau Road about a 1/4 mile west of War Road in Frenchtown Township, a 36-year-old man was killed at 2:48 am Saturday.
Leonard Werstein, from Monroe, was riding a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound in a curve on Nadeau Road when he drove off the road into a ditch and crashed.
Mr. Werstein was also dead at the scene. He did not wear a helmet.
The Frenchtown Fire Department and the Monroe Community Ambulance provided assistance at both of these crash scenes.
