New DIA exhibit features work by Boston silversmith and patriot Paul Revere

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Institute of Arts shows off its collection of early American silver for the first time in a decade. The collection went on display on Thursday, January 17 and features work by Boston silversmith and patriot Paul Revere.
   The collection was relegated to storage in 2002 when a renovation of the museum led to the closing of the American colonial galleries.
   Lack of funding for new exhibition cases forced the silver collection to remain in storage when the museum reopened in 2007. In 2011, the Novi-based Americana Foundation awarded the DIA a grant for new research on the silver collection and to support construction of new exhibition cases to house it.

    Speaking of museums, the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn is relaunching a regular concert series with music from around the corner and across the globe.
   The Global Fridays concert series kicks off Feb. 8 with the Italian music and dance group Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino. Others appearing in subsequent months include American Primitive-style guitarist Glenn Jones, Detroit acoustic duo Lac La Belle and Saadi, an electro-pop reggae artist who is Syrian-born and Pennsylvania-raised.
