DETROIT (WXYZ) - Police say an off-duty officer was shot at a Detroit gas station early Thursday morning.

The nine-year veteran with the Detroit Police Department was at the gas station on W. Seven Mile and Pierson when a man and woman started to fight, according to police.

Police say the off-duty officer stepped in, the man drew his weapon and the two exchanged gunfire.

The suspect has died from him injuries and the officer is being treated at a local hospital in temp-serious condition.
