DETROIT (WXYZ) - A Michigan State Police trooper was shot and wounded during an exchange of gunfire with suspects during a manhunt on Detroit's east side this morning.

The trooper was shot in the leg at about 4:45 a.m. while on a manhunt with Detroit Police in the area of Townsend and E. Kirby. That's near Van Dyke and Gratiot Ave.

The trooper was taken by EMS to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is listed in temporary serious condition.

There are no reports as to why police were searching for the suspects. They say two are in custody.
