DETROIT (WXYZ) - Pastor Marvin Winans put forth a powerful message as the men accused of carjacking him were arraigned on felony charges.
Montoya Givens, 20 , of Detroit, Christopher Moorehead, 20, and Brian Keith Young ,18, were charged with carjacking, conspiracy to carjack, unarmed robbery, and conspiracy to rob not armed. If convicted, the carjacking charges can carry life sentences.
Police believe the three men carjacked Winans as he filled up gas on May 16 at a gas station in the 13300 block of Linwood.
Sources tell Action News the three men are cooperating with police, and a fourth suspect is expected to turn himself in.
Winans suffered bruises and broke his finger, but during a press conference on Sunday he told reporters he was not angry or upset. The reverend said he was inspired, “The city is fixable, and it starts with the men of this city.”
The pastor said he would not back down, and does not plan to change anything in terms of his safety. “I looked into the faces of those young men and I said ‘I will not run. I will not be afraid of you.’”
