DETROIT (WXYZ) - A little girl is recovering in the hospital after her innocence was shattered when someone fired a round from a shotgun into the van that she was in with her mother.
According to police and family three-year-old Amyria Parham was hit in the shoulder after an argument escalated between two rival groups of young people.
It happened on Cardoni near East State Fair Tuesday evening just after 5:30.
"I mean why. Why would you shoot into a van with a little girl and her mother inside? It's outrageous," said Sherrie Biggs, Amyria's grandmother.
The little girl’s family says she was awake and talking just hours after the shooting at Children’s Hospital in Detroit – even asking for snacks. Her quick recovery seemingly miraculous, and is of great relief to relatives. Still they want the gunman caught as soon as possible.
"We will spare no man hours to get this suspect into custody," said Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, who came to the scene with his top brass.
Police say they think they know who is responsible, but the suspect or suspects remain at large.
