DETROIT, Mich (WXYZ) - A 24-year-old man was arrested shortly after Detroit police say he raped an 18-year-old girl, tied her up and stole her car.
If the suspect is charged, police say they will release his mug shot to the public. Police want to know if he may have been involved in any other crimes.
Investigators say he lured the young woman to a house on Winthrop after they had exchanged some communications. The victim thought it was the beginning of a friendship, but once there, police say he sexually assaulted her.
After he left, she managed to get free and went to a house asking for help. Police arrived and when they were talking to the girl, she claimed she saw her car down the street--they pursued the vehicle and the suspect ran.
A woman in a house a few doors down says she saw the young man in her backyard trying to run through a hole in the fence and just as she was about to ask him what he was doing, the police drove up and yelled for her to go inside. She says it was frightening. She also says she is glad the suspect has been caught, she feels sad for the victim who was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
