DETROIT (WXYZ) - A cab driver is dead and his passenger in critical condition after a carjacking Thursday morning.

Police say Tyrone Hitchcock who worked for Metropolitan Cab Company was shot and killed around 4 a.m. on the 19000 block of Sutherland on Detroit's northwest side. The driver was a father and Detroiter.

The female passenger was shot and rushed to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition. Police say a the shooter was also a passenger in the cab, who became angry after an argument.

When the driver did not return from his shift at 5 a.m., co-workers sent out an alert. It was then the victim's cab was spotted by another driver at Mack and St. Antoine.

Police say they know who the carjacker is and are working to locate him.
