DETROIT (WXYZ) - Authorities say a toddler drowned in a swimming pool on the 8000 block of Evergreen on Detroit's northwest side.

According to police, a woman realized her 2-year-old grandson was missing Friday afternoon. That's when the family went looking for the toddler and discovered his body in the pool.

The child was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital in critical condition where he later died.

According to the mother of the victim, the family was inside the house when the child wandered outside. Police say it looks as though he used the attached ladder to get into the above-ground pool.

Police say there were seven to eight people home at the time of the incident. The 2-year-old victim was the youngest.
