DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit Transportation Corporation wants to raise the rate for a ride on the People Mover from $.50 to $.75.

Fares for seniors and the disabled would increase from $.25 to $.35. An annual pass for seniors 65 and over would now be $10. This would be the first fare increase since the monorail opened 24 years ago.

Both the monthly and annual Fast Pass will remain at the current price of $10.00 and $100.00 respectively.

The DTC will present their proposal at three public hearings scheduled in September.

The hearings will be held September 20 at the Rosa Park Transit Center from 6 to 8 p.m., September 21 at the Julian C. Madison Building from 12 to 2 p.m. and September 22 at the DPM Renaissance Center Station from 12 to 5 p.m.

The proposed People mover fare increase is a result of cut funding by the city council.
