DETROIT (WXYZ) - Are you heading down to Belle Isle for the Grand Prix today? We have you covered with info on how to get onto the island and enjoy the race.
The first thing you need to know: You cannot just drive onto Belle Isle today. Instead, you will need to park and take a shuttle – or a boat.
That may sound difficult, but it’s not. Logistics on the island are impressive. The shuttle bus system quickly takes you from a number of parking lots right on to the island.
Parking lots with shuttle service are located both downtown and closer to the Belle Isle entrance.
Several lots are available on East Jefferson, just east of downtown and I-375. These are closest to the island.
If you are used to parking on the Cobo Roof parking deck, that is an option as are the Renaissance Center Parking Decks (located at Beaubien, Port Atwater and Franklin Street). The Joe Louis Arena Parking Deck is also available. Parking in these lots is $10. You will then need to take a convenient shuttle bus which will cost $10 ($5 for children 12 and under).
You can save $5 on parking by using lots that are further west of downtown, on Jefferson.
