DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Rock the Block Back to School Rally and Community Block Party is coming to Detroit for the fourth time Saturday, August 11 to give away free school supplies, bikes, and entertainment on Asbury Park.

The rally is sponsored by Rock Church International

Last year, more than 350 students received backpacks, pens, paper and more for free from this event. Several students won bicycles. More than 500 people were given food and entertainment as well.

This year, the organization says that due to hard economic times, they are expecting the need for these supplies to double. This means they are looking to feed more than 1000 people and give supplies to more than 500 students.

In order to carry out the event as planned, Rock Church International is asking for donations of food items including buns, chips, condiments and more.  They are also asking for supplies like paper, pencils, backpacks, and more.

Donation forms and additional information are available by contacting Gregory at 313-468-1511.
