DETROIT (WXYZ) -

Twenty-year-old Vernon Ray Coles has been arraigned by video after being arrested for the shooting of a 3-year-old girl.

Cole faces a list of charges including two counts of Felonious Assault and Assault With Attempt To Murder.

In his first video appearance in the case, Coles looked noticeably nervous as he rocked back in forth. He’s accused of shooting three-year-old Amyria Parham.

Police say the toddler was shot in the shoulder after a fight escalated between two rival groups along Cardoni near East State Fair on Detroit’s east side.

Police say the child’s mom had words with Coles about calling the three-year-old names and police say he opened fire on the family’s van.

Little Amyria was hit with a bullet in the shoulder. She was treated in the hospital and released.

However her arm is still bandaged and her mother says she is in pain and having nightmares.

Coles was taken to the jail on $500,000 bond or cash surety. He will be back in court on August 30th.
