DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Police have taken a suspected rapist into custody on Detroit's west side.
Sources tell 7 Action News the 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody just a few blocks from where he allegedly attempted to rape a woman and then shot her.
Officers say the woman was walking her baby daughter in her stroller when she was approached by a man carrying a gun. Police say she was forced behind a vacant home on Lyndon.
Witnesses say the woman was able to get away and run back around the home, and that's when she was shot in the back as she ran away.
It was at that point that neighbors called police. The woman was taken to the hospital and is now listed in critical condition. The baby was taken to relatives.
Police are telling 7 Action News that the suspect is believed to be responsible for at least two other assaults.
Sources are also saying he is also suspected in a murder that happened earlier this week in Stoepel Park.
