DETROIT (WXYZ) - Police say a driver and passenger were shot along I-94 early New Year's morning following a car accident in Detroit.

It happened on westbound I-94 near Junction around 3:10 a.m.

Police say the shooting happened directly after the male and female victim were in a car accident leaving MGM Grand Casino in Detroit.

The victims say the suspect's vehicle followed them onto the Lodge and then I-94 after the accident. That's when he opened fire striking the victims several times.

The suspect then fled the scene.

Both victims were transported to the hospital. The passenger was struck nine times and underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Michigan State Police are looking for a black Ford Expedition. Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Greenway at (734) 287-5000.
