Thousands of parishioners flood downtown Detroit for unity rally

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Thousands of parishioners flooded the streets of downtown Detroit to march and rally.

The massive show of unity from Christians across the metro area was designed to help heal divisions in a region hard hit by tough times – and to inspire people to volunteer.

Ruth Robinson and her husband Hank were among the thousands who walked. More than 500 churches from Detroit and the suburbs participated in the event.

“This is incredible. People from all walks of life, young and old came out to show their strength and their love for the region,” Ruth Robinson told Action News.

The huge rally was part of the “EACH” campaign. The acronym means “Everyone A Chance to Hear.” The concept is simple and so important: break down barriers and build strong communities.

And it would appear Saturday’s march showed those goals are being accomplished.

The walk, which started with a rally at Comerica Park, wound its way down to the Spirit of Detroit statue in front of the City County Building and then continued back to the ballpark.
