DETROIT (WXYZ) - The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, will visit Detroit on Friday and he’s expected to make a major announcement.

7 Action News first reported last week Lahood will award $25 million to the Woodward Light Rail Project.

The project has been in the works for years and is expected to significantly expand transit options in Downtown Detroit.

The announcement is set for 9:30 a.m. at Wayne State University.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and Governor Rick Snyder will be on hand for the announcement. Senator Carl Levin, Senator Debbie Stabenow, Congressman John Dingell and Congressman Gary Peters are also expected to attend.
