DETROIT (WXYZ) - Two men got more than they bargained for when they tried to rip off a Detroit homeowner.
A good alarm system, quick thinking cops and a courageous friend stopped alleged criminals in their tracks.
Darrel Grant helped police catch the two suspected home invaders Thursday after they broke into his girlfriend’s house on Wade Street on Detroit's east side.
The thieves bent a security door to get in, but once they got inside the alarm went off. Then they realized they couldn't get out of the home because of the security bars.
The two suspects ended up trapped in the bathroom, which they trashed.
The homeowner's boyfriend showed up and barricaded exits until police arrived. Officers surrounded the home and arrested the two suspects.
After they were arrested, police say the suspects tried to say they were related to the homeowner and were trying to protect her property.
