DETROIT (WXYZ) - A prisoner used a plastic comb fashioned into a shank to overcome and escape from a Wayne County Sheriff's deputy Monday morning. Sheriff Benny Napoleon says the escapee then stole the deputy's uniform.
Napoleon said the deputy did not have a gun - per procedure - when he was attacked.
He said the suspect was able to obtain keys which aided his ability to escape from the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in downtown Detroit.
The deputy received puncture wounds when he was stabbed, but Napoleon said he will be "fine."
