DETROIT (WXYZ) - WXYZ-TV presented a Detroit 2020 live special, “Busting Blight” on Monday.

Hosted by 7 Action News anchors Stephen Clark and Carolyn Clifford, the special featured a live demolition of a vacant home on the city’s west side. The home was knocked down by the city of Detroit.  Detroit 2020 also traced the history of the home and examined how it became another symbol of blight in the city.

“Busting Blight” also exposed the people and companies responsible for the most blight in the city of Detroit.

Viewers were asked to weigh in and discuss the blight problem.  Their Facebook and Twitter comments were shown live throughout the broadcast.  WXYZ-TV also streamed this special live on web and mobile devices.

“Detroit 2020 is putting the spotlight on blight, and showing how removing even one blighted home can make a big difference on a block,” said Ed Fernandez, WXYZ-TV Vice President and General Manager.  “This effort is part of our mission to inspire positive change in our community through Detroit 2020.”

Detroit 2020 is WXYZ’s decade-long, multi-platform, community service initiative designed to make Detroit a better place to work, live and raise families by the year 2020.    Detroit 2020 is committed to bringing positive changes to Detroit.  Since its launch in 2011, Detroit 2020 has presented more than 200 stories and special programs on topics including education, race and transportation.
