BRIGHTON, Mich (WXYZ) - Lauren Jasenak, 19, would like to see the Boy Scouts of America make some big changes after she was fired as a scout leader for being a lesbian.
Lauren says not only was she fired from her job at the D-Bar-A Camp in Metamora, but was told to leave immediately and she didn't have a car to get home which was two hours away.
"I was scared and didn't know what I would do and why this was happening," Lauren told us from her home in Brighton.
Lauren has started an online petition drive change.org/scoutsranch to change the long standing rule about gays and lesbians in Boy Scouts.
Thousands of people have signed the petition and many have sent Lauren messages of support, even from within the scouting world.
Lauren says she has been in scouts since she was 14 and says others in scouts, even at the camp she was fired from, are gay or lesbian, but no one knew, so nothing happened.
We reached out to the local scout leaders, left messages and were told by someone at the camp to contact the national organization.
We did, but were told personnel issues cannot be discussed.
