OCEOLA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 34-year-old Oceola Township woman is facing abuse and torture charges, accused of causing horrific injuries to her 3-year-old step-grandson.
Sara Rae Walters has been charged with 1st degree Child Abuse and Torture. She was arrested following a three month investigation.
Police say that the three-year-old boy was admitted to the University of Michigan Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on October 21, 2011 with more than 60 different injuries. These included superficial lacerations and contusions, a subdural hematoma and a core body temperature of just 88 degrees.
Police have not released any details on how the injuries occured.
Walters is locked up in the Livingston County Jailon $200,000 bond. She faces life in prison if convicted.
