EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) - An 84-year-old Eastpointe man is facing assault charges after police say he hit the chief over the head with a cell phone.
It happened at the Tuesday city council meeting. Frank Zundl, who attends almost all of the meetings, wrapped up his comments during the public comments section.
Police say, as the meeting was breaking up, Zundl dropped to the ground and refused to leave. Surveillance video shows him struggling with police officers and paramedic who were trying to remove him from the room. It was apparently at this point that Zundl hit Police Chief Michael Lauretti with his cell phone.
Lauretti suffered a bump on the head. Zundl was taken to the hospital to be checked out, but officers then took him home. It has not yet been decided if he will be charged.
