WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - The man accused of beating 2-year-old Damian Sutton could face new charges, now that little Damian has died.
Twenty six-year-old Ronald Anthony Dimambro allegedly beat Damian while babysitting the little boy.
He was being held on a $500,000 bond after being charged with first degree child abuse. When he appeared in court Tuesday for a hearing, the judge took that bond away.
Eric Smith, the Macomb County Prosecutor, says it is possible Dimambro will be charged with felony murder for Damian's death.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham says his investigators have talked to relatives and doctors of Damian. They are now waiting for an autopsy to be done.
If the medical examiner confirms suspicions that the alleged abuse caused Damian's death, Dimambro will likely face felony murder charges.
"The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is doing everything that needs to be done to make this a solid case, and get a conviction," said Wickersham.
First degree child abuse carries an up to life in prison sentence. Felony murder carries an up to life without parole sentence.
HOW TO DONATE TO DAMIAN SUTTON'S FAMILY: The Damian Sutton Fund is set up at PNC Bank and Fifth Third Bank.
