ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) - In Roseville on Thursday, Mary White and her husband David were busy selling their entire collection of keepsake lighthouses.

The Whites have more than 50 of those lighthouses from all over the world.

But now, they are being forced to selling the entire lot in order to help pay for David’s medical expenses.

David is now fighting a life and death battle with stage 5 kidney disease.

But as if he doesn't already have enough going on, this past spring, David’s health was threatened again by a vacant house next door.

It’s a house that was foreclosed on, then flooded this past winter and was quickly invaded by dangerous black mold.

Mary says the smell coming from that house was unbearable.

“It was the worst mold smell I’ve ever experienced, like something was dying”, Mary says.

Mary says her husband, who is immune suppressed, could actually get even sicker from that mold, because his body has so much trouble fighting off germs and disease.

Right away, Mary started a one woman campaign to get that black mold removed from the house next door.

She complained to Roseville city workers.  She complained to the Environmental Protection Agency.

She complained to state workers.   And through it all was getting nowhere.

Finally, exhausted and at the end of her rope, that’s when Mary called the Call For Action Team.

We contacted Roseville officials and just a matter of weeks later, work  crews came out in protective suits and cut out a large portion of that home’s first floor, removing in some places entire sections of the wall that were covered in mold.

“I can’t thank you enough, because this was my husband’s life at stake and I needed real help”, Mary says.
