CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich (WXYZ) - Bob Smith, Jr. is weighing in on the controversy surrounding a profanity-filled message his brother left for his opponent in the race for Macomb County commissioner, but he understands his anger. His brother is the Macomb County Prosecutor, Eric Smith
Smith left the message for Jim Perna who is running against his brother after the Macomb County Republican party sent out a flyer that said the Smith family, including the dad who was the Clinton Township Police chief for years, fed from the county trough for decades. The dad died 10-years ago and Eric Smith says he was outraged.
His message included several obscenities and also said "we'll bury you." Bob Smith said after the message was left his brother talked with Perna twice and Perna understood the anger and said he didn't send out the flyer.
Now the Macomb Republicans who already filed a complaint with the Michigan State Police are filing a grievance with the Attorney General's office claiming that Eric Smith broke the law by leaving what they claim is a threatening, frightening and harassing phone message.
Eric Smith has apologized for the vulgar language.
