All lanes of east bound I-696 between Mound and Van Dyke in Warren are back open following an early morning vehicle crash.
The east bound lanes were closed for five and a half hours.
According to Michigan State Police, two traffic crashes occurred around 3:15 am in the city of Warren.
Investigators say a 2002 Ford Focus was involved in a minor crash with a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van. The Ford Focus was left disabled and blocking the road way.
A 2009 Chevy Cobalt then hit the Focus.
A 27-year-old male from Grosse Pointe Park trying to push the Focus, was hit and thrown into the road.
He was taken to St. John Hospital with critical injures.
Two females were in the Chevy Cobalt. They were taken to Royal Oak Beaumont for minor injures.
State troopers continue to investigate. It appears alcohol may be a factor in the second crash.
