Deadly crash in a construction zone kills a 26-year-old

St. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WXYZ) - A fatal accident on Eastbound I-94 this morning claimed the life of a 26-year-old Standish man and injures 2 others. 

Michigan State Police were called to Eastbound I-94 near 12 Mile shortly after 8a.m. on reports of an accident in the construction zone.

Witnesses report an SUV had changed lanes in the construction zone and began to slow when it was rear ended by a semi.  The impact sent the SUV into the area under construction hitting a worker and a parked vehicle.

The construction worker is identified as Justin Vallad, a 26-year-old from Standish.  The 2 occupants in the SUV were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Michigan State Police are asking for anyone that may have witnessed the accident to contact the MSP Metro Post at (248) 584-5740.
