STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., (WXYZ) - Home invaders break into a Sterling Heights home, while a woman was sleeping.
JoAnn Schirmacher says someone pried open the front door of her home on Saal road and then ransacked her bedroom while she slept.
She says she heard the noise, but thought it was her husband of nearly 50 years coming home, she says she even shouted out, "Why are you making all this racket?”.
Schirmacher got up and could not believe what she saw, drawers and closets open, clothes all over the floor, the back door open and the front door a mess.
But Schirmacher says what really scared her was that a hunting knife was in one of the drawers. She says she shakes when she thinks what might have happened if the thief saw the knife, then saw her. "It could have been the last day of my life," she explained.
JoAnn and her husband are changing the locks and having the door repaired. They also installed motion lights outside. Police say this is a good method of burglary prevention for anyone.
