CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police say two 16-year-olds conspired with a 35-year-old woman to break into cars at the Harbours Apartments off of Hall Rd. in Clinton Township.
One resident told 7 Action News he heard glass breaking around 2:30 a.m.
"I heard a big bash. My car alarm went off . I woke up. My roommate woke up. We ran outside and saw two shady characters running down the street."
Investigators say the 35 year-old woman is a former teacher and served as the teens' getaway driver.
According to police, the teens were wearing ski masks and breaking into cars at the Harbours Apartments with a crowbar. They say all three live at that apartment complex and had just stolen a speaker out of one car, but took off after getting spotted.
After his car window was smashed, the resident drove his car to a friend's house to keep it safe.
They left to return to his apartment in his friend's car. On the way back, he saw what he believed was the suspects driving away. They followed them, got the license plate and called 9-1-1. As they passed the car, they saw someone wearing a ski mask looking right at them.
"I saw him put his hand down, lift up, then point the gun out the window and shot it. Pow!"
One bullet hit his friend's car, but thankfully no one was injured.
Investigators say the gun was given to the teens by the former teacher, but police soon learned it was a stolen firearm.
The cops caught up with all three suspects at the apartment complex.
The 35-year-old woman told police she was laid off from her teaching job last year.
She's locked up in the Macomb County Jail. The teens are in a youth home.
All three of them could face a judge on Friday.
