Roseville, MICH (WXYZ) - A frightening sound caused Tracie and Ben Shepherd to wake up early Saturday morning.
“It’s metal to metal, the whole house shook,” said Tracie Shepherd, when asked to describe the sound of vehicles crashing on Clancy Street in Roseville.
One vehicle was chasing another. Both were traveling at a high rate of speed.
At least six vehicles parked on the street or in driveways were hit before the speeding vehicles came to a stop.
April Sparks pulled into her driveway moments before the mayhem on Clancy Street started.
“I heard the cars speeding very, very fast, so I got out of my car to get in the house as the first car went by,” she said. “As the other truck came, I ran into my house, shut the door just as it hit my neighbor’s truck, throwing it into my yard. Then they landed in my neighbor’s yard.”
A spare tire from the vehicle and part of the water pump flew up into the air and wound up in the attic of Sparks’ home.
"It sounded like a bomb went off," Sparks said.
She has temporarily patched the hole in the roof as residents await a police report.
Occupants in the second vehicle fled from the scene. The driver who was being chased suffered glass cuts to the eyes and face, according to residents who were the first to reach the crash victims.
Roseville police said all of the occupants avoided serious injury.
