Chesterfield Township (WXYZ) - A seemingly unworried Jonathan Elbers stood before a judge on Monday and learned his bond. The judge told him that to get out of jail he has to pay more than $2 million cash bond.
“I wish it was no bond,” said Cyndi Gagleard. “But at least it is a high bond.”
She says she has known the 20-year-old woman Elbers is accused of attacking last week.
The 23-year-old faces charges of assault with intent to murder, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting and assaulting police. If convicted as charged he faces up to life in prison.
Chesterfield Township Police say the Reese man went to his ex-girlfriend’s house on Thursday night, argued with her, and then told her he was going to kill her and then his self. She fought back, hitting him in the head with a ceramic Rooster.
Shortly after, police and the woman’s sister arrived at the home to check on her.
Police tried to arrest him, but after a struggle, he got away. He would elude police for three days.
Then on Sunday, Bill Dod, arrived at his house and found Elbers inside.
“I told him I wanted to break his neck and peel his face off,” said Dod. “He just took off.”
Dod says he knew it wasn’t a normal burglary, in that only clothing, and nothing of value was missing. He found bloody towels in the bathroom where police believe Elbers treated his injury.
Police tracked Elbers from that home and found him hiding in a nearby deer blind in a tree.
