WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) - A driver lost control and struck the concrete retaining wall on eastbound I-696 this morning, and then he was hit by a semi-truck. The man died later from his injuries.
The Michigan State Police Metro Post are investigating the accident that happened at about 5:30 a.m. on eastbound I-696 by Mound Road in Warren.
Police said that the driver of a 1997 Saturn two door crashed into the wall after he lost control. The vehicle bounced off the wall into the eastbound lanes of traffic where it was hit by a semi-truck.
The Warren Fire Department removed the driver of the Saturn from his vehicle with the Jaws of Life. The driver is a 50-year-old man from Dearborn. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
MSP are asking anyone who may have witnesses the crash to call Trooper Mathis at (248) 595-1725.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
