UTICA, Mich. (WXYZ) - It's been a dream more than two decades in the making for Utica Mayor Jacqueline Noonan.
"The Clinton River is an 80-mile long resource that we have not adequately been able to highlight," Noonan told Action News on Monday.
The new Memorial Park, a riverwalk, and hiking and biking trails will be dedicated at a ceremony on Friday.
The trail links Memorial Park, near downtown Utica, to Heritage Park on the other side of M-59.
Heritage Park has been upgraded to include many new features, including a canoe launch and fishing pier.
The trails connect with others that lead to Metro Beach in Harrison Township.
"In this economy a lot of people...are moving out of state so we really need to draw people in," says Melissa Williams, a Sterling Heights mother who is impressed with the new additions.
The plan is to expand the trails north to Shelby Township and northern Macomb County.
