STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police in Sterling Heights say construction workers found what appears to be body parts while working 50 feet down in a sewer located near 15 Mile and Schoenherr.

Police have released photos of the victim's tattoo in hopes someone will be able to make an identification. WARNING: Photos two through five are graphic.

Investigators tell 7 Action News that the body parts may not have been placed in the sewer at that location, and could have come from miles away.

The body parts have since been retrieved and turned over to the medical examiners' office.

The water flow had been shut off in order for crews to work in the area. Investigators believe this is how the body parts were trapped in that section of the sewer.

Officials say the sewer line is 21 miles long and runs through Oakland and Macomb Counties, before heading into Detroit. It is also lined with numerous manhole covers.

However, officials say it is likely the remains were put into the sewer line on one of the northern or western branches of the line.
