STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - An 18-year-old Sterling Heights woman is in court to plead guilty to animal cruelty charges.

Lisa Marie Precourt is accused of starving her two American Pit Bull Terriers, Angel and Shiner.

The dogs' severely emaciated conditions were discovered November 18, when she surrendered them to the dog rescue group Detroit Bully Corps.

Angel later died of starvation. A necropsy showed she had no belly fat and that there was no medical reason for her condition.

Shiner was treated with fluids and food and is expected to make a complete recovery.

During today's hearing she pleaded guilty to two counts after waiving her right to trial and right to counsel.

Precourt faces a maximum sentence of one year and 93 days in jail, plus fines and community service if she is convicted.

However, she is expected to be sentenced to probation and to have to pay restitution. It is also expected that she will be barred from owning any pets.
