WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 50-year-old Warren man is facing federal child pornography charges after FBI agents found thousands of pictures and videos that can only be described as horrifying on his hard drive.
According to federal court documents, investigators observed images on the hard drive belonging to William Wright Topping II that depicted adults engaged in sexually explicit conduct with real children including infants and toddlers.
Topping is set to appear in federal court Thursday afternoon to face one count of Receipt of Child Pornography and one count of Possession of Child Pornography.
Topping's 29-year-old son, William Topping III, was actually the one who was first arrested in case after he gave the hard drive to a man who turned it over to Warren police.
Topping III reportedly told investigators that he stole the hard drive from his father then loaned it to a friend.
On Wednesday, the case against Topping III was dismissed when the criminal complaint against his father was filed in federal court.
The mother of Topping II said her son has never been in trouble with police and blames her grandson for the criminal case against him.
Betty Topping told 7 Action News that her son had been asking her grandson to return the stolen hard drive because he needed to destroy some items on it.
Betty Topping says she never knew what those items were that her son wanted removed.
However, things took a strange twist after Topping completed her interview with 7 Action News. She became defensive and told us she did not want us to do the story on her son. Then, as our cameras were rolling she pulled down her pants and mooned our news crew.
It's unclear if FBI agents have been able to identify any of the adults or minors seen on the images.
