CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Two people who were killed after a multi-vehicle accident on I-94 have now been identified.
The two victims have been identified as 41-year-old James Wietecha from Columbus and 43-year-old Susan Kienscherf from Troy.
Chesterfield Township police and Michigan State Police responded to the scene around 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
The crash happened in a construction zone and involved three vehicles and a semi tractor-trailer. Witnesses told police the man from Columbus caused the chain-reaction crash after hitting a direction arrow trailer in the construction zone.
The woman from Troy reportedly stopped off to the side and got out of her car to help. She was hit and killed while walking over to the scene.
Eastbound I-94 was closed for eight hours.
The accident is under investigation.
Toxicology results are pending at this time.
