Dog put down after eating hotdogs stuffed with needles; neighbor is accused of horrific act

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - A family is mourning the loss of their beloved dog after it was killed in a horrific case of animal cruelty.

Jinx, an 8-year-old black Labrador, died after eating hotdogs stuffed with needles.

The gruesome incident happened in mid-November. Andy Wann, the dog's owner told Action News Jinx was behaving fine, and then all of a sudden she was having stomach issues.

“My dog threw up 60 [needles] in total, plus the 20-25 that were still in her stomach,” Andy Wann said.

Andy took Jinx to the vet but there was nothing they could do and she had to be put down right before Thanksgiving. Andy’s daughter, who celebrated her 16 ^th birthday this week, was devastated.

“I couldn’t stop crying. It was so nasty,” Ryleigh Wann said.

The Wanns believed their neighbor was to blame because the neighbor had complained that Jinx got into his yard. Without proof they needed help from police.

State police interviewed the 64-year-old neighbor and investigators say the man admitted to stuffing the hotdogs with needles, but claimed he did not put the hotdogs in the Wann’s yard. The man also apparently said he didn’t think the needles would kill Jinx.

The Wanns say that’s a lie.

“They weren’t in his yard. They were in my yard. So he dropped them off when he drove by,” Andy Wann said.

We confronted the neighbor in question. He denied any wrongdoing.

MSP handed over the case to the Monroe County Prosecutor who will determine whether to file charges.

“I just think he’s a really bad man and that Karma always gets people back,” Ryleigh Wann said.
