MONROE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Dr. Abdullahi Mohamed, who is a psychiatrist, is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with 8 of his patients.
In May, he was charged with criminal sexual conduct after police say one of his female patients came forward. Since that news broke, police say other female patients came forward with similar allegations.
"He's not just a doctor, he's a mental health professional. Usually people that to come to a mental health professional already have some issues so they're compounded by the fact that the person they trust the most with their most intimate issues has now betrayed that trust," says MSP Trooper David Boike.
Police say Mohamed has been a psychiatrist for about a decade and that he spent most of his time working in Monroe. They say some patients had been going to him for more than a year without any problems, but for some reason in January his behavior changed.
On Wednesday, he was charged with 13 counts of criminal sexual conduct which police say includes many cases of fondling.
He has also been charged with assault. Police say in that case, a woman resisted his advances and he tore her dress.
7 Action News spoke with Mohamed's attorney, but he had no comment. Meanwhile, Mohamed says he is no longer working. He is out on bond.
