Police investigate Monroe County pedestrian crash that killed 18-year-old girl

MONROE, Mich., (WXYZ) - Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that killed an 18-year-old girl.

Police say the crash occurred on S. Custer Road east of Raisinville Road in Monroe Township.

Preliminary investigation reveals 57-year-old John F. Chiotti of Monroe was operating a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on S. Custer Road around 7:45 p.m. when he struck two pedestrians standing in the roadway.

18-year-old victim Elizabeth J. Winter died at the scene while 29-year-old Nicole M. Holt was transported to Mercy Hospital and later St. Vincent's Mercy Hospital in Toledo, OH. Holt is listed in critical condition.

Chiotti was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7768.
