CARLETON, Mich. (WXYZ) - When members of the Carleton Rotary Club decided to organize a Jack of Spades fundraiser nearly one year ago, they were not expecting that much of a profit.
The raffle has been going on for 48 weeks, and there is still no winner. Sales for the progressive 70/30 raffle have grown to $700,000.
The Jack of Spades raffle is played with 54 cards that are put in numbered envelopes in a locked cabinet. When a person buys a ticket, they choose a number from one of the envelopes and write it on their raffle ticket. The tickets are then placed in a barrel.
Friday at 9:30 p.m., organizers draw one raffle ticket from the barrel. If the jack of spades is in the envelope written on the raffle ticket, that ticket holder wins the jackpot.
So far, no one has picked the correct envelope.
Tickets for the raffle are $1 each and are sold at the Grafton Inn in Carleton, just west of I-275.
